Final Project (Computer Graphic) - Band Merchandise

For our final project, we have to create a merchandise for a made up indie band. The mandatory merchandise we have to design is a CD sleeve, PC and phone wallpaper, tote bag and t-shirt. The extra things we could create for points are pins, a lyric booklet, flyers and everything else possible a band would distribute to their fans. I chose to make band merchandise for a band called "Wired Milk". In a nutshell, my band is basically 4 Indonesian guys who formed a electronic-pop-indie band while they were studying in Canada. They will be releasing their debut album in 2014. The band consists of Baskoro (vocals and keyboard), Nandie (guitar), Kago (Synthesizer), and Bana (Synth bass). You may read more about the band here. Once I came up with the story, I created the mood board! This is what I came up with:

"Legolize"
I made only one mood board because I feel certain with the concept I have come up with. What I'm planning to do is make the images in black and white and make it have a vintage texture. As for the colors, I chose white, blue, yellow and red. What makes it slightly different than Indomaret is that I made the colors in a slightly different shade. The colors I have chosen are based on two of Passion Pit's albums. As for the font, I chose to use Futura medium.

Mind map
Basically, for the whole concept, I chose my color scheme and basic design from Passion Pit's albums. I want to imply the bright colors and geometric shapes the album displays. As for the images, I chose to give a vintage vibe. By applying the that concept, I feel like it will fit the music "my band" created, which is a fun, indie, electric genre. As for the members, I chose to use the members of a local band, Dried Cassava. Although their genre of music isn't actually electric, I feel like they capture the story I have created.

Composition Study

What we had to do for this task was make some sort of overlapping design. It doesn't really seem as easy as it sounds... mainly because I didn't really pay attention on what we were supposed to do. I hope I actually get this task correct this time!

Not too shabby.

I got pretty lazy the second time.

Abstraction in Natural Object

I thought that this would be a fun project after the midterm, it turned out that I was wrong. So we made 10 sketches first. My silhouette of a man with a fro and the swirly pattern got chosen. I was confused with how I had to make it so I followed an example that was provided, which was that the pattern got zoomed in in each object.

Although I followed the example, apparently "I got it wrong". Yippee.

I remade a new one and I think it looks much worse.

Midterm Project (Drawing) - Sketch of Objects

For drawing, we obviously had to draw. We took a picture of 5 objects that all has a certain theme (my theme is an athlete's attire) and we then had to sketch it using an A2 paper. Sounds easy? Not really. This was one of the hardest things I had to face this midterm (haha I'm not being overdramatic but it really was). I'm so glad I got to finish in time! Surprisingly, I had such an enjoyable time making it... but maybe it'll better for my sake if I do sketches like this once in a while.

The picture

The messy sketch dedicated to my dad, who is the only few people that's impressed by my work. Not only that, this particular sketch is inspired by him as well!

I totally ruined my sketch by making such a messy background. Ugh... if only I had the patience to color it in with even strokes and make the shading as dark as the actual picture. I guess this is what I get for working at the very last minute. Hopefully I'll still receive a satisfying grade though...
